INTERDEPENDENT FACILITY FOR QUADRIPLEGICS & PARAPLEGICS
Six of us have moved into the premises at Farm De Mist at Glendale Heights.
We plan to use our extensive experience to develop a sustainable living facility that can deliver the projects we have planned.
CAPACITY BUILDING
The aim of the Capacity Building Program is to develop basic life and personal management skills for persons living with significant mobility impairments within our rural communities, through face-to-face and side-by-side peer interaction, mini workshop training, and positive motivation in an independently run NPO facility.
A large majority of persons with spinal cord injuries are left to lead a lonely, isolated existence, with no hope of normal social interaction, training, or work related privileges. Capacity building through peer-to-peer interaction gives SCI’s a more positive, motivated outlook and expectation for the future. This develops participants to want to reintegrate with open society and to once again live their dreams.
BACK TO WORK PROGRAM
One of our focus areas will be to encourage Employers to look at opportunities to include people with disabilities in their employment plans.
Training will be targeted to the predetermined needs of potential Employers that will maximise the success of the project.

ACCREDITED TRAINING & TARGETED SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
We have partnered with an accredited training college that has a fully accessible computer training centre for people with disabilities. We have large potential Corporate Partners who want to see meaningful, targeted PC skills development in an effort to maximise employment opportunities for course graduates.
We also have access to over 500 people with disabilities who have completed one week basic and two week courses, and who are very keen to embark on longer, more complex PC & IT training courses. All are in a position to travel to the new accessible training centre in Durban.
Courses will be accredited and targeted to satisfy market needs.
ACCREDITED CAREGIVER TRAINING
We have managed to source a SETA accredited caregiver training course with accredited Trainers.
Trainees will live on the new property for twelve months on a three week on, one week off basis.
Suitable accommodation needs to be built and furnished before the training starts.
The “Caregiver Course” is a twelve-month, practical and theoretical, hands-on course made up of four quarters of three months each. Malangeni residents will do student evaluations after each month is completed, and a SETA issued certificate will be presented to graduating students.
VENTURE CREATION FOR BLACK WOMEN WHO ARE DISABLED WOMEN
We have partnered a very good wig maker who will train up to forty Black Women with disabilities per course to run their own wig making businesses from home. These courses will have a duration of three months and will include financial management, marketing, and sales to maximise opportunities of success.
We are investigating opportunities to wholesale raw product to the businesses. This will also offer mentorship opportunities. These courses will be run for people from previously disadvantaged communities who are disabled at a fully accessible venue in Durban. A minimum of 90% of learners will be Women.
